Suggest Treatment For Dry And Hacking Cough Despite Taking Medication
I came down with severe laryngitis 9 days ago and totally lost by voice for 7 days. I am raspy now but more importantly have developed a dry scratchy hacking cough that won t quit. 24/7 - continuous. I never stop coughing. Went to urgent care about a week ago and he said it was most likely viral but I am also exhausted - not sure if from lack of sleep due to constant cough or from illness. Have been taking popsicles, tera/honey, at night cough med with a bit of codine which has not done much for the cough,.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Avoid taking cold beverages. You should take mast cell stabilizers to prevent from infection. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay. Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x-ray of the chest. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with mucolytic agents . For now, do warm saline rinses, take rest.
