Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough, Cold And Asthma In A Child
my 8yr old son has a cold and asthma which has flared up. He has a constant irritating dry cough, which is starting to have a wetness to it. He feels like he needs to cough to clear his chest and takes a few goes to get it. He sounds wheezy, but a dr we saw (was no good!) said his chest is clear!? Not sure what to think as he has times when he is struggling to get a good breath and has used ventolin quite abit.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. If your kid is getting continuous breathing problem then he should be assessed with pediatrician or pulmonologist. It can be most likely due to asthma. Offending allergens should be identified by allergic testing and should be avoided contacting with it which is the definite management. If that is difficult and he is getting frequent attacks then he should be put on with preventive medications like corticosteroid inhaler , anti histamines and mast cell stabilzer combination like levocetirizine with monteleukast. This will give effective control for asthma. If asthma is not effectively controlled in kids then it can interfere with their growth, studies etc.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
