Suggest Treatment For Dry Gangrene Of Leg

Looking for an estimate/timeline for an 83 yr old with dry gangrene of the leg. She also is on dialysis. The Vascular doctor has said she is not eligible for amputation. Circulation is pretty much shot and they will not open her up to put in any more stints. We are looking at hospice with continued dialysis- how long will she be able to live before the gangrene takes over her body?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Dry gangrene is often due to Peripheral artery disease, but can be due to Acute limb ischemia. The limited oxygen in the ischemic limb limits putrefaction and bacteria fail to survive
If the affected part it is not removed surgically,a process called autoamputation will eventually lead to falling off of the gangrenous tissue .

Regards
