Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband (who has Hep C and a host of other medical problems) just ate more than usual and as happens often with him, needs to vomit. We are stumped because his body goes through the vomiting but nothing is coming out....and he just ate. We are concerned...what could cause this? It just keeps happening....
There are many common causes of vomiting. Heartburn can cause vomiting and is one of the most frequent causes. Heartburn can progress to ulcers that can cause vomiting.
Treating with over the counter Pantoprazole 40mg daily could help. He may need to see a doctor as we also use Sucralfate often, which requires a prescription.
Gallbladder issues can also cause vomiting issues. This can be explored by getting blood work, ultrasound (which shows structure) and HIDA scan (which shows function).
Gastroparesis is another cause of frequent vomiting. This occurs when the stomach does not easily move food out. This causs the stomach to be filled up and trigger vomiting. A gastric emptying study can be used to diagnose this.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong
