Good afternoon. I am a women in her mid 50 s and for the past 3--4 years have had very dry skin. My finger nails are very dry. My hair is dry n brittle. and I in the winter have dry circles around the outer edge of my lips. I look like a clown.. (My lip area is the most discussing of them all.) I try Vaseline I try nail oils. I also work with paper ALL day and in a horrible building with mold.. Any over the counter vitamins I can take. Would love an answer.. Thanks For Your Help.. Sandy
You need to use emollients to keep skin moist, and liquid paraffin with vaseline or petroleum jelly can be used. The vitamins you mentioned, not sure what those were aimed for but better to get targeted therapies like with vitamin E and C as well as zinc and calcium as these are needed for skin nourishment.
If problem persist dermatologist review is recommended. Soaps which have antibiotics or anti bacterial elements or leave the skin too dry should be avoided.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
