Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having trouble swallowing food the last couple weeks ... I am a 49 year old male, non-smoker, but asthmatic and allergist ... seems like my allergies have been worse than normal ... I don t feel like there is any pain or swelling in my mouth.
I can understand your concern. As you are informing that you have been suffering from some allergies that have been worse recently, it can also be the cause of the painful swallowing you are experiencing.
Do you know what allergies you are suffering from? If you know them, you can restrict exposure to them. In addition, you can start taking antihistamine such as Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) once a day for 5 days. If that helps, allergy is the sure reason. If it does not, you may need to go to the physician as you might need intramuscular injection of glucocorticoids.
In addition, if you are not sure what you are allergic to, I would advise you to go for blood test for allergies.
I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have follow up questions.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
