Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I ve had an ear infection for three weeks now and have seen various ENT specialists who have prescribed me a number of things. I was first diagnosed with an ear infection and was given Amoxicillin 500mg with Ciprodex. This did not help, and then was diagnosed with a fungal infection and was put on Acetic Acid, which I felt burned my ear so horribly that I had to stop. Now I am found with a ruptured eardrum as a result of the middle ear infection, and am back on Ciprodex and a stronger Amoxicillin at 800mg. I was treated with boric acid powder at my last visit too. I m worried that these antibacterial treatments will worsen the fungal infection. Is this possible?
The antibacterial treatments will not worsen a fungal infection.
But you need to be on antifungal treatment if a fungal infection was found. This is also because you stopped your treatment of the fungal infection before it was cured. You need to get full antifungal treatment as well.
Get well soon.
