My 7 year old daughter had her ears pierced this past july. They were pierced by a professional piercing person, in a very sterile procedure. He used a needle that removed a core of skin, rather than puncturing the ear lobe. The earrings are titanium. All went well and the ears were healing well with no incident. In November I noticed purple lumps behind both earlobes. They were not painful or sensitive. It was recommended we see a pediatric skin doctor who prescribed triamcinolone .1%, which I am reluctant to use, and also polysporin in case of infection. I have been using the polysporin along with calendula gel. While trying to take the earrings out I cut the lump on the left ear with my fingernail and now the lump has a yellow/pinkish discharge. In the last few days the right ear has a small amount of discharge and some blood coming from the pierced site, not the lump. It was recommended we do not remove the earrings as discharge might be trapped inside if the holes close up. Not sure what to do at this point.
