ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi, thanks for your query.
In my opinion, your child must be having upper respiratory tract infection.
Having ear infection during cold attacks are common
putting hand in ear doesn't suggest ear infection.
Ear pain, uncontrolled crying in night, ear discharge suggests ear infection.
This can't be detected without clinical examination.
Consulting doctor on phone not advisable for kids. Please consult with your doctor and get tested. If there is infection, penicillin antibiotics + anti inflammatory medicines +anti inflammatory drugs for 5 to 7 days is advised.
All these are prescription medicines. Empirically you can give paracetamol + antihistamines syrup for fever and cold.
I find this answer helpful
