Suggest Treatment For Ear Pain And Severely Swollen Neck
I have a friend that complained about an ear ache on Tuesday, now she is in ICU with her face and neck severly swollen and the hospital is claiming it is cellulitis infection. There was no cut or rash, just pain and now sever swelling. Could their diagnosis be incorrect? she has been on antibiotics since Friday with very little improvement?
As per my clinical experience, the ear pain and severely swollen neck indicates possible otitis externa or otitis media with secondary enlargement of cervical lymph nodes in the draining territory of the area. My guidelines at present: - Antibiotic ear drops as gentamicin or others as per the prescription of your doctor and keep the ear covered with cotton plug - Oral antibiotic coverage for gram positive bugs as strep pneumoniae and others - Anti-inflammatory medicines as supportive care - Balanced nutritious diet to combat the immunity - Avoid smoking if consuming
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
