Suggest Treatment For Ear Pain In A Child

11year old son with an earache. He spent some time in hot tub last week. He complained of an earache last weekend. We treated it with Tylenol and warm compress. He was better mon-friday. Now he is complaining of the earache again and there is green earwax on the cotton ball we put in his ear.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM!

If he has pain and also secretions from the ear it indicates for an ear infection. Hot and long baths are not recommended because the water may wash completely the ear wax that protects it.

If your son has not fever you may take painkillers like tylenol you have used before and some otic drops with antibiotics and anti inflammatory drug to cure the infection. I would recommend Paroticin (fludrocortisone/lidocaine/polymyxin b), or Doricum (Fluocinolone/Neomicin) auricular drops.

I hope your son will be fine soon.
Best regards!
Dr Eriol.
