I m in Nepal for the next six months on a research grant. The trip here from the US involves a 16-hour plane ride, which often makes my ankles swell terribly. This time, I wore light compression socks which helped tremendously - my ankles swelled only slightly. But since I arrived here a month ago, my ankles and feet are usually swollen most of the day, and at nght. And I ve developed carpal tunnel syndrome (diagnosed at a Western clinic here) for which I m wearing an arm brace at night. The doctor didn t seem to think the ankle-swelling was serious or related. I ve been walking more than I usually do in the US, and the food here is quite salty. But this hasn t been a problem in the past. I m 45, female, not menopausal, bp 112/65, weight 114lbs, height 5ft 3in. I don t take any medications; I do take 400mg vit E daily, 1200 mg Evening Primrose Oil, and a fish oil supplement. I have no allergies, my cholesterol levels are enviable, according to my home doctor. Any ideas about the edema and how I can remedy it? Thank you --
