Suggest Treatment For Elevated Liver Enzymes In Blood
Hello, my husband had a blood test yesterday and his liver enzymes came back a little high. The rest of his blood work was fine. We had several drinks on Saturday and Sunday, his blood test was Tuesday. Could this be a possible reason for an elevation in the liver enzymes?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. The reason for elevated liver enzymes could be due to acute injury to liver caused due to alcohol intake. Since it states that he is prone for alcoholic liver injury, it would be better to avoid its intake or to be taken less frequently in limited quantities. Otherwise, the damage caused could be much more severe landing him in alcoholic steatohepatitis and might progress to fatty liver and cirrhosis. You can get it tested again after 1 month without any intake of alcohol and see the results. If it is normal, then he needs to maintain liver functions carefully without overloading it with alcohol and with its less less frequent intake. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
