Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Tonsils After Recovering From Viral Infection
I have a severe viral infection about 5weeks ago. Likely influenza with associated tonsillitis. Now all my symptoms have gone except my tonsil on the right side is enlarged and pitted and minute white spots are notable in the indentations. The tonsil as a whole is largely unresponsive to antibiotics. Could you help with a differential diagnosis.
The enlargement of tonsils could be due to infection, inflammation or malignancy. I suggest you to get a swab test to look for infection and drug sensitivity. In case the tonsils are still unresponsive to antibiotics, excision of tonsil may be required for histopathological examination. I suggest you to consult your physician for swab culture.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
