Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 59 year old male, married for almost 37 years and very much in love with my wife. We are our only sexual partners, never been with anybody else. Our sex life has been great over the years but of late I am having trouble getting or maintaining an erection. I do work more hours than ever and I do get tired and also my wife is mid menopause and her libido is not what it was. We still hug, kiss and touch as much as ever but it is just getting more and more difficult for me to please her properly. Neither of us smoke, drink or take drugs and we are both very long term vegetarians. Any idea please
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. You are 59 and its common to see progressive decline in sexual power with advancing age. But you were maintaining the good sexual life and the symptoms have emerged just some time back. I'd advise you to get your blood pressure checked to rule out hypertension. Also get blood sugar levels checked to rule out diabetes. Both of these conditions are common causes of erectile dysfunction. Visit a physician to rule out these condition.
If every thing comes normal then visit a psychiatrist for help. Medicines like PDE-5 inhibitors as Sildenafil, Tadalafil etc are used commonly in erectile dysfunction and have excellent efficacy. These are safe medicines if used as per proper prescription. Please visit a psychiatrist for evaluation and prescription of these drugs.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
