Suggest Treatment For Erectile Dysfunction

Hello I am 17 years old and I can't get an erection when I'm with a girl. I'm 5'9" and I weigh 160lbs I play sports and I eat healthy. I can get an erection any time I want unless I'm with a girl. Is there anything I can do? Or is this just all in my head?

Dear service user,
Thank you for writing to Healthcaremagic.
I understand your concerns about lack of erection with partner.
You do have erection otherwise. This suggests that your body and physical system works normally.
Psychological factor causes this problem to you.
For constant erection, continuous exciting/romantic/erotic feelings about partner and fantasies should be there in your mind. If your mind is diverted to concern about erection, you will lose erection. This happens to you with your partner.
You must enjoy and only enjoy kindling, joy of being touched and touching without focusing on your 'performance' or quality of erection during foreplay and sexual intercourse.
You can consult with a sex therapist/psychiatrist/sex counselor.
Do this with your partner at every sexual encounter without bothering your performance.
I hope, this will help you.
Regards.

Psychiatrist Dr. Chintan Raval's  Response
Dear service user,
Thanks for writing to healthcaremagic.

I understand your concerns about inability to have erection especially when ''you see it or you want it''. This happens due to psychological influence.
Let me explain.
An occasional episode of erectile failure due to functional or situational reasons like fatigue, tension or own ''pressure to 'perform' rather to enjoy'' is very common. This seems in your case. When you focus on your penis to ''make it'' erect, it may loosen.

First erectile failure due to any reason leads one to be worried about next sexual encounter. One focuses constantly on ''how do i perform''. This leads to anxiety and difficulty in erection in subsequent sexual activities. One’s anxiety goes on increasing with every ‘failure’.
From your history, it suggests that your physical systems are working properly. Sex is largely what happens between two ears and little between two legs. I hope you got the point i want to convey.
I recommend psychological counselling with a trained psychiatrist.
All the best.
Warm regards.
