Hello Madam,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern.
The condition you are describing is a typical presentation of what is called virilization. Virilization is a condition that is characterized by a male-pattern hair growth,
irregular menstruation, hair loss, acne and obesity. Women with virilization often have an imbalance in the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone.
Except genetic predisposal, there are two main causes of virilization,
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or adrenal hyperplasia.
With such a presentation in my clinic, I would recommend you make some blood sample analyses for the presence of testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, fasting cholesterol and triglyceride levels, a
glucose tolerance test and a
dexamethasone suppression test. Beside this, I would recommend you take a
transvaginal ultrasound in order to check for ovarian cysts.
Hope I answered to your question. Don’t hesitate to ask again.
Kind Regards,
Dr. Ina Zaimi
