Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have COPD not sure what stage yet but I cannot seem to breathe without being on steroids...have O2 at home but that doesn t help it seems within 3 days of last steroid I have an flare up and cannot breathe. This has all came about since November 6 last month after being admitted to hospital.Everytime steroids wear off need to be put back on them. Last script was for prednisone 3by mouth for 5 days this is the third day since I had any and starting to struggle again. What are the side effects of the steroids and will I come ammune to them and them no longer work? Any treatment options you could suggest. Waiting to see a specialist but cant get in until after 1st of year....cannot wait that long without steroids.
You can start with Ipratropium Bromide metered dose inhaler as well as nebulisation. It will help and yes steroids do have side effects like osteoporosis so try to take them through inhalation and not orally.
Hope I have answered you query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ankit
