Suggest Treatment For Extreme Fatigue And High BP

Doctor, I have been prescribed 88 to 50 to 100 MCG over the last couple of years. I m currently on 88mcg, but I am experiencing extreme fatigue and increased blood pressure. I am concerned that the dosage is too high or perhaps that I should discontinue it altogether. Your advice?

Hi,

You have not clarified, for what disease these doses have been prescribed. I presume that perhaps these are the doses of Thyroxine prescribed to you for hypothyroidism. Thyroxine doses should never be stopped or increased abruptly. They are gradually decreased or increased titrating the dosage according to the level of T3, T4 and TSH. The dosage may be increased or decreased after every month or so in the beginning till the dose is stabilized. After this, titration of dose may be done after every 3 months and later on every 6 months.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
