Suggest Treatment For Extreme Pain In The Neck

My husband is having extreme pain in his neck - at the base of his skull on the right side. He went to walk in clinic and they said it was muscle spasm. He has taken muscle relaxers and strong pain meds all day, plus tried heating and cool packs but no relief. He can hardly walk and the pain seems to be getting worse. he does not have a fever; he did have a hard impact to the right side of his head a week ago. When should he expect to have relief from the medication, if it is muscle spasm? I m concerned that the diagnosis may not be correct, since his pain is not being alleviated with the treatment they prescribed.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think he should do an MRI to see the spinal cervical vertebrae conditions. I think he is having a pinched nerve. Also, anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil or Naproxen should be added for pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
