My 60 yr old sister fell today and broke her femur. Her health is poor as the result of an auto accident at age 39. She is diabetic, has rheumatoid arthritis and her body rejected titanium rods in her back. She was diagnosed w mrsa when she was recovering from auto accident. We want to know what options we should look at beside having metal placed in her femur.
Hello,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that your 60 yr old sister fell today and broke her femur. Her health is poor as the result of an auto accident at age 39. She is diabetic, has rheumatoid arthritis and her body rejected titanium rods in her back. You want to know what options you should look at beside having metal placed in her femur. In my opinion operation by closed interlocking nail(metal road inside bone) is best treatment option. You can use stainless steel in nail in place of titanium.Other option is external fixation where rods are outside the thigh but large screws go inside .Plaster is also option but I will not recommend both these methods. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health.Take care
