Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had fever and body aches for nine days now. The fever can very from 99.5 to 103 . I went to re yesterday..they weren t concerned with these symptoms after my labs returned. They were concerned with my liver enzyme levels. But I m. A gastric bypass four years out and can only take Tylenol.
Tylenol contains acetaminophen or paracetamol that belongs to the group of medications known as analgesic and antipyretic medications is used for reducing fever and treating for mild to moderate pain. It is a liver friendly and effective medication for for fever or painful conditions if it is taken in the dose and duration as directed by the prescribing doctor. Because, hepatotoxicity of acetaminophen or paracetamol is dose dependent and available clinical studies in patients with liver diseases like cirrhosis suggest that acetaminophen or paracetamol in therapeutic doses doesn't cause liver function deterioration or liver toxicity. Paracetamol can be safely used in patients with liver function deterioration like you or liver cirrhosis in a dose of 3g/day. But before start taking any medication you should consult your doctor first.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam General And Family Physician,
