Suggest Treatment For Fever And Cough In A Child

Good morning. My 8 year old son has had a fever for 5 days now, some of which were in the 102 temp range. Dr's office said it was just a virus. For the past two nights, he will run a fever, then wake up drenched in a cold sweat and his body temp will be 95-96 range. I have four children and have never seen something quite like this! He also has a cough. Not raspy or anything, but enough force that he says it hurts his chest.

As per your complain the symptoms that you son is experiencing of fever and cold sweats seems to be due to viral infection only and viral infection has no treatment to kill the virus..
The infection subsides after the virus completes its life cycle in individual's body who is infected..
Only supportive treatment to reduce temperature rise and other symptoms if present can help..
As of now you can give him Acetaminophen to relieve fever and also do cool sponges over his body and extremities that is arms and legs..
Give him plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration..
Give him ample of rest.
A soft bland diet should be given..
In case if the symptoms still does not resolve in another 3 to 4 days consult an Infectious Medicine Specialist and get evaluated..
