Suggest Treatment For Fever And Low Platelet Count

Hi doctor. I had done tests on sunday when it just startee. I had undergone tests of dengue and found positive with ns1 antigen as 3.62. During the first day when i had just felt low my platelet count were 2.9 lacs. After 3 days it is 2.2 lacs. Also, today is fourth day and i have fever ramging from 101 to 102.6. When the fever settles down. I have food ptoperly like chapati dal etc and plenty of fluids. Is it concern? Is the ns1 antigen scale mild?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Platelet count would increase once the acute stage of dengue passes off. Don't take any antipyretics other than paracetamol and go for tepid sponging. Have plentiful oral fluids and water and be well hydrated. Preferably, take semisolid diets which are soft to digest. Have fruits like banana, kiwi and papaya.
Get TPC done every alternate day.
I advice my patients to get admitted, once count decreases below 20000, there is a refractory fever in children with risk of seizures and when oral intake is poor due to intractable vomiting and risk of dehydration. Bleeding from any site like epistaxis, gum bleed, blood in sputum or stools etc are an absolute indication of admission and platelet transfusion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
