Suggest Treatment For Fever And Raised Bump On Head Behind The Ear
3 year old grandbaby has now been sick, three days ago felt a hard bump on the head area behind the ear today he has two more one near the one and another on the side of the head the bumps feel hard. Yesterday complain of stomach ache but today had a suffnicant bowel movement. Is drinking water but no appetite feels warm to the touch
The raised bump you feel on the back of the head behind the ear is most likely a lymph node reacting to the infection which is affecting the child. This is very normal and desired response, because the lymph node is actively combatting the infection, and through this it often gets swollen and tender.
However, this often causes concern for the parents - even though the process is normal and healthy. As long as the child is awake (or easily woken) as well as responsive. it is fine to take a wait-and-see approach. Offer any fluids the child might like. The swollen lymph nodes can stay swollen for several weeks after the infection has cleared.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Maria Riechel-Sarup, General & Family Physician
