Suggest Treatment For Fever And Shortness Of Breath

My mum is 55 years old, she has got fever and complaining from short narrow breath for 2 weeks now... Even coughing is v hard for her... Blood tests were all normal, no signs for bacterial infection, however she took antibiotics and bronchodilators, inhalators... chest x ray was normal, but showes a dilated unfolded aorta... Her blood pressure is normal... So I want to know if this finding could be an indication for any other problems? she s really suffering :(

Hello,

As your mother is having shortness of breath and fever this could be due to cold / cough due to some viral infection. As her age is 55, she will have the lower side of the immune system.

You can buy one respirometer from any online store to check the FEV1 volumes.

Also, Its difficult to make a confirmation if the has a COPD. Because shortness of breath can he due to multiple reasons but as her BP is within the normal range I suspect it to be more of respiratory infection.

As mentioned she is already on antibiotics and bronchodilators I will advice to add on Nebulizer which will ease the bronchial tract and open the obstructed duct.

Buy one incentive spirometer and do. Breathe in and breathe out using the one. This device helps in improving the lung capacities and also strengthen the respiratory muscles.

Doing regular deep breathing exercises, thoracic breathing, diaphragmatic breathing and segmental breathing exercises will help to breath.

Usually the number of breaths taken per minute is between 16-22. If the breathing rate goes beyond it, then a bronchodilators will be adviced of the nebulizer.

Also focus on nasal breathe in and mouth blow out. Due to shortness of breath the body is not getting cool down and the fever is there. Doing steam in a day will help further.

Having more water in a day will provide cool down of the internal system.

In my clinical practice of 12 years, most patients with shortness of breaths are adviced the above mentioned pulmonary rehabilitation program.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
