Suggest Treatment For Fever And Soreness In The Skin

My son got bit on his foot by something when camping in Oregon. His foot swelled up a bit, bite site is painful and sore when touched! Some of his skin deteriorated in a line of about 2-3 inches up from the bite in a straight line. The deteriorated skin line is about 1/4 in width, maybe a little bit bigger! He didnt get sick, dont think he had a fever, but his toes were very sore that night as well. This happened about 4-5 days ago and it hasnt gotten better or worse! Suggestions or comments welcome and thank you, Damien (Dad)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Use a spray of local anesthetic containing benzocaine, such as Solarcaine, to relieve pain. If your skin reacts to the spray, stop using it.
-Use hydrocortisone 1% cream or calamine lotion applied to the skin to relieve itching and redness.
-Use ibuprofen every 4-6 hours to relieve fever
-If it doesn't get better go to the hospital.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
