The swelling, dryness and chapping of the upper lip occurs due to stomatitis as well as due to due to dehydration as the child does not drink well in pain and discomfort.. I would suggest you to consult a Paediatric Dentist and get evaluated for the exact cause of the symptoms.. In case of herpes infection keep your child hydrated as much as possible.. To relieve fever Acetaminophen or paracetamol can be given and dosage depending upon his age.. Feed your child with soft and cool food.... You can also place ice packs on swollen gums to provide relief of inflammation.. Avoid giving hard ,hot or spicy food that can cause further irritation.
