Suggest Treatment For Fibroadenoma

hi,

I had a mammogram 8 months ago which showed a fibroadenoma. I had a core biospsy done and was proven to be a benign fibroadenoma. I was told to not take it out that they do not turn cancerous. I just went back for recheck and it grew to 2.6. Why didnt they just take it out when i was first diagnosed because now im scared it turned cancerous.

welcome to Health care magic.
1.In a case of fibroadenoma, when the lesions are small and asymptomatic and benign in nature, not causing any discomfort - The decision was left to patient weather want to get operated or not.
2.As if there is no growth in followup scans it always better to leave it alone.
3.But in your case if it is growing in size, better get it excised.
4.After the operation i would suggest a followup ultrasound scans, as chances ao recurrence is always there.
5.Before the operation one will always confirm with an biopsy, only after that one will perform / plan for an operation.
Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
