I suffer from fibromyalgia and have severe insomnia issues. I have been taking clorenzepan for about 6 days. It works wonders for the insomnia but I have been founding myself extremely depressed in the last few days. Very very dark thoughts. I know I have to stop this medication but do I have to reduce slowly or stop cold? and any suggestions for the insomnia?

Hello,

You have been taking clonazepam and are getting very depressed and having dark thoughts. You are suggested to talk to your treating doctor who prescribed clonazepam to you about the side effects that you are experiencing. Your treating doctor may prescribe you some other medicine that suits you better.

Do not stop using clonazepam suddenly. Stopping suddenly may cause increased unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. You should taper your dose gradually, after every two days keep tapering the dose till you stop taking it. You can get connected to a detox center that will give you symptomatic treatment as and when required.

Insomnia commonly occurs due to wrong food intake. Stop taking caffeine, fried fatty food, white bread, processed & packaged food, sweets, cakes, alcohol, etc. Stopping to take these things will help you sleep better. Avoid working for very long time on PC, laptops. Take breaks between works. Do physical exercise. Stay away from stress and anxiety.

Get connected to a Physical therapist, cognitive behavioral therapy, or mindfulness-based therapy, relaxation technique, light therapy, stimulus control therapy, are helpful. Do not take naps in the day time. Get rest when you feel sleepy. To get fibromyalgia treated, get physical and occupational therapy done. Counselling is helpful. If obese, loose weight and do regular exercises and walking. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
