Suggest Treatment For Flank Pain While Having Kidney Stone

I have been working on a large kidney stone for a few months. I ve been to a urologist twice, and though he suggested surgery, I ve been able to reduce its size via natural remedies, though last time we checked it was still fairly large. I ve been having more flank pain lately, and today I urinated a large amount of thick jelly-like substance that did not mix with the urine in the toilet. It remained sort of suspended. I ve never seen this before. Is it possible this is a dissolved kidney stone?

Hello,

Current status evaluation of the kidney with ultrasound examination is mandatory to decide the final curative pathway of the calculus. Depending upon the size and location of the calculus with functional status of the urinary tract, various measures can be obtained as:
- Flush therapy (for small, tiny calculus which can be expelled from the urethra, say around size of 4-5 mm)
- Extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL)
- Intra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ISWL)
- Per cutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for larger stone above 12-15 mm or staghorn
- Dormia basket or Retrograde intrarenal scopy (RIRS) to handle upper ureter and kidney in one set up
- Open nephrolithotomy (where endoscopic interventions not possible or difficult or contraindicated due to various reasons). Intake of anti spasmodic medication as dicyclomine or drotaverine will help a lot for pain relief on primary basis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
