Suggest Treatment For Flank Pain While Suffering From Kidney Infection

Hi I had a nasty esbl kidney infection about a year ago but didn t know and went partying and took ecstasy. This happened approx 1 year ago. Since then I have constant flank pain to some degree but this worsens if I have alcohol or occasionally coffee which would be minimally anyway. I have had numerous tests but they tell me nothing is wrong. I have just been to a festival and stupidly tried ecstasy again and now have increased flank pain to the point I m going to bed at 9.30 every eve as I m so tired and the pain is easier when lying down. I m very worried but the doctors say there s nothing wrong with them. Outside of this I am extremely healthy and eat v well and exercise so thought I should be able to get away with the occasional night out drinking or occasional (1-2x yearly drug use) Can u advise what further tests I should be having or advise on what s causing this lasting pain? Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

With extensive symptoms of flank pain and fatigue, there must be underlying definite reason to be evaluated as chronic pyelonephritis or others. In my clinic, I do recommend basic evaluation with:
- Complete hemogram with differential count
- ESR and CRP
- Serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen
- Urine culture

- Ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis
- Intravenous pyelogram
- CT scan of abdomen and pelvis
- MR angiography of renal vessels

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
