Suggest Treatment For Flatulence And Burning Feeling In Lower Jaws

Dear Dr. Rynne,

I awoke at 2:00 am to a "burning feeling" in my lower jaw (similar to when one is about to vomit), accompanied by a hunger feeling and excess salivation requiring me to stand over the sink. There was no feeling of nausea. I had dinner at 7:45 pm and went to sleep at 11:00 pm. The few days leading up to this were accompanied by flatulence. In the past I suffered from acid reflux however since I changed my diet the condition has stopped; tonight, however, dinner was more fatty than normal and for the first time in months accompanied a very sweet desert. For the past month with constant studying leading up to exams and employment evaluations which is quite stressful in my profession as it has to do with public safety.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Best Regards,
Shawn

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

The symptoms you mention in query are due to acid reflux disease as you also mention in query . Due to heavy and fatty dinner the acidic content come up in esophagus up to pharynx and cause symptoms as you mention in query .

The condition can be corrected by two prong strategy ,first by changing life style with you are already working out by altering you diet and secondly by starting medicine .

I would suggest you to :

- Avoid spicy and heavy meals specially at night .

- Take a little walk after every meal .

- Eat small and frequent meals .

- Avoid aerated and beverages containing caffeine .

Consult gastroenterologist for proper examination.

Doctor may order endoscopy of esophagus , X-ray of upper respiratory tack and ambulatory acid test .

Doctor may prescribe antacid like gelusil , H2 blockers like ranitidine and proton pump inhibitor to correct the condition .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
