Suggest Treatment For Foot Pain With Tingling And Numbness

apox. 18 month ago I got in a bad dirt bike accident. Since then I have had extreme foot pain, tingling, numbness and leg pain in the back of my upper thighs and hips and some lower back pain at times. Walking at times for long periods can be vary painful at times. A lot of the pain seems to be weight bearing from just standing of walking. Riding my bicycle does not bring out any pain problems.

Hello,

Your symptoms point at one of the following probable conditions which could be lumbar disc prolapse, lumbar spondylitis with nerve compression, sciatic nerve compression, pyriformis syndrome, or Meralgia paresthetica. Most probably your condition is related to nerve root compression due to intervertebral lumbar disc prolapse or bulge. The following tests are usually ordered such as MRI thoracic lumbar spine, and X-ray of vertebral column.

Yours is due to trauma so the symptoms have started since then. For pain relief, NSAIDs like Ibuprofen and Aceclofenac along with muscle relaxants like Chlorzoxazone are to be taken twice daily for 7 days. If you have the following problems, you don't have to take NSAIDs which are gastric ulcer, bleeding disorders, heart problems like angina, or deep venous thrombosis.

Still you have to take tab. Pantop 40 mg once daily before food to prevent gastric irritation. If you can't take NSAIDs opioids are a better alternative. Hydrocodone, oxycodone, Tramadol daily twice for 7 days. Bed rest when the pain is severe. Avoid lifting heavy weights, prolonged period of standing and sitting. Physical therapy to strengthen back muscles will help a lot in reducing the pain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
