Hello
The causes of forgetfulness and memory loss are varied.
Is he having trouble remembering new information, or forgets events of the past?
Thyroid problems and many neurological conditions can cause memory loss.
He should have a mental status examination, which helps pinpoint type and severity of memory loss.
There are several medications such as aricept, namenda and exelon which can be used in the mild to moderate stages of dementia to help stop the progression of dementia.
He may need assistance with normal activities such as eating, bathing, dressing and such.
Best regards
