Suggest Treatment For Fracture Of Femur Bone

For a 77 year old female that fell Monday afternoon, was transported by ambulance and diagnosed around 3:30 pm in the emergency room with a broken femur just below the hip, was admitted into the hospital for surgery. What is the standard protocol with this type injury at this this age for a person to wait for surgery and what is the likely solution to repair the femur?

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your fracture could be most likely neck of femur fracture. Surgery depends on the type and extent of fracture. If there is risk of avascular necrosis (death of bone head) then emergency surgery is advised. If already bone head is dead then hip replacement is advised. If there is no such risk then surgery is planned and Dynamic hip screw or cannulated screw is used for fixing the fracture. This will help in early mobilization than non surgical management like putting in traction. Complications like thromboembolism also reduced by surgical management.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
