I m a female, age 67, right handed. I fractured my right humerus, mid-shaft, in a fall five weeks ago. The internal fixation includes a plate and 10 screws. Remarkably, I ve regained virtually full range of motion, am still doing strength exercises, and use the arm as much as possible within a 5 lb weight limitation. However, I still have pain--in my forearm, not the upper arm. It hurts on the outer side of the elbow, across the inside of the elbow and down the inside of the forearm to my wrist. There is only minor bicep pain. The surgical incision has healed well with minimal adhesions. The physical therapist has heard my complaint, but is so impressed by the improvement in range of motion that she brushes the complaint aside. Recognizing that muscles were torn in the upper arm, is this forearm pain to be expected? What can I do to minimize the forearm pain and help heal the insult to the arm? I take over-the-counter pain relievers and use Aspercreme.
