Suggest Treatment For Frequent Constipation While Having Diabetes

My wife has Diabetes. She is 63 yrs. old. She suffers from frequent constipation. I have noticed, when giving enemas, that the area just posterior to the anus becomes distented and reddish in color . when I press up in this area, the evacuation of the rectum seems easier. Could this be an anococcygeal hernia?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to anococcygeal hernia. I suggest doing a colonoscopy to confirm the diagnosis.

Meanwhile, I suggest using a laxative such as Miralax and fiber supplements. I also suggest her to eat a fiber-rich diet and drink liquids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
