Suggest Treatment For Frequent Cough And Cold In A Child

Hi my son is 3 yrs old. Past 2 months he is suffering from frequent cough and cold. Dr.suggested me to give monticope syp for 2 months is it good to give that syrup for 2 months. Can u please let me know under what circumstances it is given for a long time.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Monticope is an anti allergic composition containing active ingredients Montelukast and Levocetrizine..
It can help in relieving cough and cold but in case if the cough is continuing since 2 months it needs a detailed evaluation and investigations and a proper treatment has to be planned..
It can be due to Chronic Upper Respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, lung infection etc,
So my suggestion would be to consult a Paediatrician or a Pulmonologist and get him evaluated and investigations like sputum culture and chest x ray can be diagnostic..
Your son can be advised antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, mucolytics, cough suppressants and steam inhalations for faster and complete recovery..
