sir, since last three months I have excessive thirst, urination and loss of weight up to 5kgs. on 2nd June my FBS -16.8 Mmol/L .After good diet control and exercise without any medicines on 13 th June FBS -6.2MMol./l and HbA1c-12.4% I will be glad to get an expert opinion. Regards James
Hello James, Thank you for the question. From all the symptoms you described and the blood sugar values in June you definitely have diabetes. Although with diet and exercise your fasting values have come down (6.2) but your average sugar (HbA1c) is quite high and warrants treatment. We even do not know your after meal sugars, which may be high (estimating from your high HbA1c). I would suggest you to get some blood tests like, Fasting and post meal blood sugars, Kidney function test, lipid profile and meet a diabetologist who can see the reports and start some basic medicines for you. As you have shown very good response to diet and exercise I am sure you may just need a small dose of Metformin to keep things under check. Abnormally high sugars put you at risk for kidney, eye and nerve damage and also increase your risk for heart problems. So do not delay and continue your diet and exercise as you are doing now. Diet and exercise play a major role in control of diabetes. Hope this helps. Take care.
