Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! I am a 53 y.o. female who is quite overweight. When I become overly heated (especially now with hot flashes ), I develop a reddish itchy rash under my breast. My doctor in the past called it a fungal infection. She prescribed a prescription cream that I used, which helped a lot. I now live in a new city and have not seen my new internist yet. I wanted to know if there was any over the counter anti-fungal cream that would be helpful until I see my Doctor.
It is quite common for females to acquire this type of fungal infection esp. during summers. If I were your treating physician I would suggest local application of Terbinafine Hydrochloride cream twice daily for two weeks after washing the affected area and completely drying it. If after two weeks the problem doesn't subside please consult your local dermatologist for the start of oral anti fungal drugs.
Meanwhile keep the affected area clean and dry. Wear soft cotton clothes and undergarments. Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the medicine to avoid spread of infection.
I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you good health.
