Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Have had gastritis problems with constipation. For nasuea took Pepto Bismol and made constipation worse plus brat diet for about three weeks. Also started with ach under left rib cage and lots of gas. When I had a bowel movement this feeling went away. Have been to the doctor put me on brat diet with Pepcid ac and I took gas x for some relief. Still had a lot if trouble on and off with constipation so I took an enema and had some bright red blood. Not much but later felt like I was going to have a bowel movement and a little more came out. No stool. I am 69 years old and have a lower back problem which is why I needed aspirin and at times celebrex which caused the initial problem of gastritis. My doctor to blood count test and enzyme test for liver and pancreas all fine. Should I go to my gastronomic doctor or wait a little longer?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Constipation not relieved by laxative and other measure can be due to fecal impaction as enema also has failed to relieve the constipation. Gastritis may be a reflex problem due to other intestinal problems. I would advise you the following in such a situation considering your age of 69. Clinical evaluation by a General Surgeon, examination and investigations. Get an appointment for colonoscopy and CT scan of the abdomen after a proper preparation to be confirmed by a preliminary X-ray of the abdomen by taking proper laxatives and enema. This will give the proper diagnosis and confirm or rule out problems like diverticulitis, cancer or any other problems that cause the problems. Identify the foods that cause you constipation and avoid these strictly.
