Suggest Treatment For Gastritis

My daughter has been diagnosed with gastritis. She recently had an upper GI scope done with biopsies to confirm this. She has been on Carifate(?) and it did not help. Been on Prevacid for about a week. Does okay for a couple of days and then the pain starts all over again. She showed very small markers of allergies to wheat, eggs. Doc said to go gluten free. Also put her on an anti-cramping medicine with the Prevacid. My daughter is only 6 and nothing seems to be helping her. Any guidance or suggestions would be most welcomed.

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Antiacid therapy should be taken for a longer period to see its result,al least for 4 weeks. So you should have ranitidin or IPPs for that time. Then if there is no improvement, more complex antiacid medciations may be considered. At the same time, other measures should be followed: It should be treated by changing lifestyle habits first and in severe cases medications or surgery may be required. You need to eat smaller meals but or frequently , avoid long sitting after meal and regulate your body mass. You need to avoid fried food, carbonated drinks, coffee, alcohol and spicy food. You should eat more milk products, vegetables and boiled food. Gluten may or may not have an affect but should be avoided.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
