Goodevening! i am Armela,i just graduaded in general medicine,i want a second thought about my brother. he suffers from epilepsy.i will explain shortly his illnes histry when my brother was 13 years old he had his firs seisure,a generalised one, after that he had three others in a month, after an electroencephalography and an irm he was diagnosticated with epilepsy. in fact the irm showed an old damage of the left anterior hemisphere the couse may have been the difficult birth when he aspired birth liquids or a high temperature when he was almost one year old. anyway he starded depacine chrono, and for a while he was ok,than after two years the seisures started again so we had to add levetiracetam(keppra( while the time passed the doctor added the dossage of this two medications. now he is 20 years old and he is taking 1500mg depacine chrono and 1000mg keppra. he had almost a year and a half without seisures when he started to have some episodes of *freezing* i meen he just looses for some seconds the contact with the world,he does listen of what i say but its impossible for him to respond or to move. he also had two seisures, always generalised seisures, last unday and the last one today. i dont know what to do. is it time to change the medication? i wish you can give me a thought, thankyou!

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, your brother is suffering from epilepsy.

Previously he was having generalized seizures but now as per your history he is having absence seizures as well. Its time to change his medications now.

Drugs like Lamotrigen and Levicetam will be helpful in this case. I would like you to get his consultation with neurologist done and get a metabolic profile for serum calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and phosphorus done as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
