Giant axonal neuropathy is a rare disease, it is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. He needs to get nerve conduction velocity test, brain MRI and peripheral nerve biopsy done under a Neurologist. The treatment will depend on the clinical condition and reports of the findings obtained.
Treatment is commonly supportive and symptomatic. Get connected to physiotherapists, speech and language therapists. Give him food rich in vitamin B1, B6, B12 or supplements. Give him fruits, whole grains, legumes, omega-3 rich foods and lean protein.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
