Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 99 year old grandmother sustained an injury to her right shin. The hematoma is quite large and black in color. It is quite painful and she sustained the injury while a home care worker was bathing her. I can send you a picture if you need a visual on the wound.
As a physician I would like to tell you that Hematomas will take some time to revert back as depending upon age. Keep her leg elevated. If the injury is recent, within 24 to 48 hours, apply cold compression and if the injury is beyond that, apply warm compressions on the hematoma.
I would also like to tell you that if she is experiencing pain you can give her Tab Ibuprofen. Also, keep an eye on swelling, if you think it is increasing in size, go and see a physician as soon as possible.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Abhijeet
