It is characterized by blisters and erosions most often affecting the neck, armpits, skin folds and genitals. The lesions may come and go and usually heal without scarring. Hailey-Hailey disease occurs due to a mutation in a specific gene that creates a protein that is essential for the proper health of skin. The disorder becomes apparent after puberty, usually by the third or fourth decade but symptoms can develop at any age. Sunlight, heat, sweating and friction often aggravate the disorder. Treatment part includes 1. Avoid trigger factors such as sunburn, sweating and friction helps to control the disease 2. Wear absorbant pads in underwear 3. Combination corticosteroid/ antibiotic creams are helpful as treating the secondary infection is important. 3. A number of other oral medications (retinoids, dapsone, and methotrexate) have been reported in single cases as partially effective but large trials have not been performed.
