Suggest Treatment For Hard Bump On Skin Post Injury

I PITCH IN THE GAME OF SOFTBALL. I GOT HIT WITH A LINE DRIVE 2 MONTHS AGO. I WENT THROUGH THE REGULAR PAIN, IRRITATION OF SKIN, BRUISING ETC... ANYWAY, 2 MONTHS LATER I HAVE A HARD BUMP WHERE I GOT HIT AND THE SKIN IS A BIT OFF COLOUR(SUBTLE DARK RED). I ALSO GOT HIT 2 YEARS AGO ON THE LEFT LEG AND THE SAME THING...I HAVE A HARD BUMP BUT THE SKIN COLOUR IS NOW NORMAL. DO I NEED TO GET SCANS OR COULD SOMETHING BE REALLY WRONG AND I WONT KNOW UNTIL LATER IN LIFE WHEN COMPLICATIONS START?

Hello,

It is good to know that you do not have complications as yet. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get MRI or CT done to detect if the hard bumps are due to blood clots or any other pathology.

You will be treated accordingly (depending on your clinical condition and reports of the investigation obtained). In the meantime, you can apply ointment thrombophob (Benzyl Nicotinate (2mg) + Heparin (50IU) in the area affected, it will help to release the blood clot and reduce the swelling but it may take time.

To remove blood clots you treating doctor may inject heparin under the skin or give oral medicines to treat or remove blood clots but it should be taken under caution and observation. Never take it without prescription by your local treating doctor.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
