Suggest Treatment For Hard Knot On Left Side Above Collarbone

Hard knot on left side of neck above collar bone. Not painful. Worried it could cause a stroke. No health insurance. What could it be? Going to the doctor tomorrow if it is okay to wait until then. The knot can be moved around. It is near my caradid artery. Just noticed it 3-4 days ago. I am a smoker.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The knot may be due to a soft tissue mass (muscles, connective tissue, fatty tissue) or a bony mass.
It may not be related to the blood vessels in the area.

A stroke can occur in different ways including a clot travelling through the carotid to the brain.
The mass is outside the carotid vessels.
You can get it checked but it is not likely to affect your stroke risk.

Smoking can increase the risk of a stroke. The other risk factors being overweight/obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, clotting disorder.

I hope this helps
