Suggest Treatment For Hard Lumps On The Shoulders

I have two pea sized hard lumps that have recently appeared on my right shoulder, close to the base of my neck. They are sore and inflamed, and hot to the touch. They have started aching today, even when I am not moving. I do get upper back pimples, but they aren t usually deep, so I am wondering if this may be something else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

They may be foliculitis, which is inflammation of the hair follicle. Generally, these are self-limiting as long as you do not poke them. You need to keep the skin in the area clean, avoid chemicals on the lesions. You can put warm compresses on the lesions to help them heal better (watch that you do not get burned).

If no improvement in 2-3 days or you notice any worsening you will need to see your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
